Willoughby Street getting ready for some heavy demolition in it's near future

(Brownstoner)

This has been a long time coming. I'm really excited to see some action at these properties. The sooner buildings go up here, the better. Although, Avalon has a history of throwing these buildings up pretty quick. Look at how fast the Avalon Fort Greene went up. I blinked and there were people moving in, Quite amazing when you have the funding to get something done.

A Trolley in Downtown Brooklyn?

(Brooklyn Paper)

"The route would begin at Fulton and Adams streets, travel down Boerum Place and turn onto Atlantic Avenue towards Columbia Street. Upon reaching the Battery Tunnel on Columbia Street, the train would turn down Van Brunt Street and return on Richards Street."

I would completely support this idea.

Tio Pio Expanding

I was just informed that Tio Pio is expanding to this new location at 116 Court Street. Hopefully the fare better then the last 2 that had no luck at all with this property. Although, I must say that Tio Pio would be a great addition to Court Srteet and I can see them doing very well there.

I couldn't be happier. Let's get a real restaurant in there. How many people have to move here for someone to realize that this space can have potential other that Fast Food.

Removal of parking minimums in Downtown Brooklyn

Click link below for actual story.

http://www.google.com/url?sa=X&q=http://www.streetsblog.org/2010/07/23/movement-afoot-to-drop-downtown-brooklyn-parking-minimums/&ct=ga&cad=:s7:f2:v0:i0:lt:e1:p1:t1279969834:&cd=k5QeYT56dLc&usg=AFQjCNGKiDVOaPRa6Gy9ghZmpUnS0FHFLQ

As SteetsBlog reports, there are discussions on removing the parkings
minimum regulations for buildings being built in downtown Brooklyn.
What this means is that builders won't have to provide a minimum am
out of parking spaces for a residential development. They think that
this will encourage use of mass transit. I completely disagree with
this line of thinking. I don't think that any of the people making
these decisions live in downtown Brooklyn. What happens when you
invite relatives over that have to dive to your apartment because the
don't live close to mass transit? They are being short sighted in
thinking that people just go to work and go home. The parking needs to
be there for the weekends. That's when residents are living there life
in Downtown Brooklyn. Not during the week when the street are
congested with shoppers and office workers. Does anyone agree with me
or am I totally out of left field on this issue?

Hotels of Brooklyn

New York Times reports on all the hotels that have come to Brooklyn in recent years. I passed by the Sheraton today and it's beautiful. The have a bar in front of the lobby and after 5 pm everyday, the lounge bar an restaurant open for business. It's in the back of the lobby. I will be reporting on this shortly in the future. All I can say right now is I'll be there for the Kobe Beef burgers. As per the manager, the roof bar will be open by the end of August this year.

The Real Deal (slew of retailers en route to downtown brooklyn)

Welcome to the Downtown Brooklyn Blog

Hello and welcome to the new blog for Downtown Brooklyn. This blog will be a source of everything and anything Downtown BK. For some of you who may not know me, I've been blogging at my other blog which is the Belltel Lofts Blog. This website will be what that blog never was. An open forum for all to discuss the evolution of Downtown Brooklyn. Also, no comment verifications. Like it or not, things are changing around here, despite the economic downturns we've experienced in recent years. I look forward to having anyone contact me and let me know what they would like this blog to be. Happy posting.
