Brooklyn Eagle: Councilwoman James Protests Closure of Neighborhood Business

I'm sorry but I can't agree with James on this one. I understand that we want some things to stay the same but there are building codes for a reason. Just because they have been able to operate their business under the radar of the building department doesn't make it ok. If the building can't support it, they have to leave. It's a danger to residents. Doesn't anyone remember the antique statue business on the corner of 2nd Ave and Houston Street in the city. They were there for a long time an the building collapsed under it's own weight because the overloaded the floors. The building department has a responsibility to protect the public. That simple.
