Article: Video: Why Are Blacks Leaving Brooklyn?
In my opinion, this appears to be a very one sided view of what is happening in Downtown Brooklyn. I wouldn't be surprised if FUREE funded it themselves. They forget to tell you that an unusually small amount of people have been displaced from there homes because the rezoning that happened in 2004 which was manly targeted at using under utilized commercial spaces and turning them into luxury rentals and condos. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and come from humble beginnings. Am I now supposed to feel guilty because I'm in a better place financially and am very interested in Downtown Brooklyn becoming more diverse? I think not. Neighborhoods in Brooklyn have gone through many changes over the last 30-40 years. It took all this time for people to realize that Downtown is a prime location to live and commute into the city.
The truth of it all is Fulton Mall is changing to accommodate some of the new residential arrivals. It won't be exactly the way it was before. You can't freeze time because you liked the olden days. It just doesn't work that way. Does anyone remember what Park Slope looked like in the mid 1980's? Unfortunately, I do. Not a fun place to live or drive through. I welcome the new and improved Downtown with open arms.
On another note, the vibe I was picking up on in this video clip lead me to believe that the title should read "why are all of these OTHER people walking where I shop with my people".
I'm calling it like I see it.
Change is constant.

Brooklyn Eagle: Councilwoman James Protests Closure of Neighborhood Business
I'm sorry but I can't agree with James on this one. I understand that we want some things to stay the same but there are building codes for a reason. Just because they have been able to operate their business under the radar of the building department doesn't make it ok. If the building can't support it, they have to leave. It's a danger to residents. Doesn't anyone remember the antique statue business on the corner of 2nd Ave and Houston Street in the city. They were there for a long time an the building collapsed under it's own weight because the overloaded the floors. The building department has a responsibility to protect the public. That simple.

Wright & Goebel Wine shop on Flatbush Ave
Wright & Goebel is located at 147 Flatbush Avenue Extension, Brooklyn, NY 11201 and the # is (646) 495-1520. I passed by for the first time this past Friday night. I really have only great things to say about my experience. The staff is friendly and quite knowledgeable about wine. Know, that may sound like it should be a given but I've been in too many local wine & liquor stores that have clueless staff. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, Owen. Owen showed me around the store and explained the layout of the wines. I was happy to see that they have quite the interesting selection and not the standard issue wines you see everywhere. They also have a huge selection of wines in a very reasonable price range (from $10 to $25) Suffice to say, I left with a case on my shoulder. Although, the next time I will take them up on the suggestion of having it delivered. That case got pretty heavy after a block or so.

Downtown Streets near Metrotech finally open

With the leaving of the Stock Exchange back office computers, the following streets are now open for car traffic. Entering Metrotech via Myrtle Ave, Duffield Street, Bridge Street, Lawrence Street and and exit to Jay Street. I for one, couldn't be happier. As a driver, it has been terribly inconvenient to go through security check points and deal with complete incompetence on a regular basis.
Chef César Ramirez gets Michelin rating 2 Stars for Brooklyn Fare
"Brooklyn Fare opened a year-and-a-half ago in the base of 200 Schermerhorn, a luxury rental facilitated by the area's rezoning, and remains the only real option for proper groceries within the rising neighborhood. It's also said to serve the best meal — a $135 10-course tasting — in the borough. That's according to the Michelin Guide, which yesterday named the Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare — basically an 18-seat counter inside the grocery — a two-star restaurant." Bed & Breakfast on Lawrence Street? Believe it.

Apparently, 3B Bed and Breakfast is, somewhat, open for business. This could become a great and inexpensive way to have a place for family to stay when visiting. Although, judging by the size and pricing, you will probably need to plan way ahead. Prices start at $28 a night. Come to think of it, the pricing worries me a bit. I don't want it to turn into a place where hookers are turning tricks. Sorry but I'm just being logical.

Willoughby Street getting ready for some heavy demolition in it's near future

(Brownstoner)
This has been a long time coming. I'm really excited to see some action at these properties. The sooner buildings go up here, the better. Although, Avalon has a history of throwing these buildings up pretty quick. Look at how fast the Avalon Fort Greene went up. I blinked and there were people moving in, Quite amazing when you have the funding to get something done.

Smile, Your on Brooklyn Mobile
A Trolley in Downtown Brooklyn?

(Brooklyn Paper)
"The route would begin at Fulton and Adams streets, travel down Boerum Place and turn onto Atlantic Avenue towards Columbia Street. Upon reaching the Battery Tunnel on Columbia Street, the train would turn down Van Brunt Street and return on Richards Street."
I would completely support this idea.
Tio Pio Expanding
I was just informed that Tio Pio is expanding to this new location at 116 Court Street. Hopefully the fare better then the last 2 that had no luck at all with this property. Although, I must say that Tio Pio would be a great addition to Court Srteet and I can see them doing very well there.

I couldn't be happier. Let's get a real restaurant in there. How many people have to move here for someone to realize that this space can have potential other that Fast Food.
